Meet Rick Thomas, an accomplished education leader with a remarkable career in public schools spanning 39 years. Currently serving as the Executive Director of OSIG since 2022, Rick’s dedication to education is evident throughout his journey. He contributed seven years to the OSIG Board of Directors, ensuring a positive impact on school insurance.
Rick’s administrative roles include Skiatook Superintendent (2011-2022), Oologah Superintendent (2004-2011), Oologah Assistant Superintendent (2000-2004), Owasso 6th Grade Center Principal (1997-2000), and Owasso MS Assistant Principal (1994-1997). Earlier in his career, he served as a teacher and coach at various schools, including Owasso MS, Sperry MS, and Kellyville Public Schools.
Rick’s educational journey includes a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University (1983), a Master’s from Northeastern State University (1995), and an Education Specialist degree from Oklahoma State University (2002). His passion for education and commitment to schools make him an invaluable asset to OSIG and the education community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Rick cherishes spending time with his grandbabies and finds joy in activities like hiking, playing golf, and serving in his church.
Terry Davidson, an esteemed educational leader, boasts a rich background in education and administration. He holds a Master of Science in Education from the University of Oklahoma (1979) and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University (1972). With an impressive fifty years in education and forty-six years in administration, Mr. Davidson’s expertise is unparalleled. His career has encompassed pivotal roles, including Finance Director at Comanche Public Schools (2019-2024), Superintendent at Comanche Public Schools (1995-2019), Superintendent at Wright City Public Schools (1987-1994), and Principal/Superintendent at Lukfata Dependent School (1976-1987). Notably, he began his journey as a dedicated 6th-8th Grade Teacher/Coach at Lukfata Dependent School (1972-1976).
Mr. Davidson’s commitment to educational leadership shines through his involvement in various advisory teams and boards. He served on the State Superintendent’s advisory team for John Folks, Sandy Garrett, and Joy Hofmeister from 1990 to 2022. Moreover, he is an esteemed member of the Board of Directors for both the Oklahoma Schools Insurance Group (OSIG) since 2002 and the Oklahoma Public Schools Investment Interlocal Cooperative since 2003. His contributions to the field have been rewarded with accolades like the Oklahoma Foundation For Excellence Administrator of the Year in 2010 and the OASA Oklahoma Superintendent of the Year in 2012-2013. Notably, in 2019, he received the prestigious OASA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Currently, Mr. Davidson remains passionate about education and actively serves on the Board of Trustees for the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. His unwavering dedication and impressive accomplishments have left a lasting impact on Oklahoma’s education sector.
Beyond his unwavering dedication to education, Mr. Davidson finds joy in playing the piano, working on old Ford pickups, and engaging in yard work during his leisure.
Sherry Durkee is the Superintendent of Sand Springs Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s
degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Studies both from
Oklahoma State University, and completed the Post Graduate Certification Program at
Northeastern State University in School Psychology.
Ms. Durkee began her teaching career in 1987. In 1993, Ms. Durkee accepted a position at Sand Springs Public Schools. She has held the positions of School Psychologist, Special Education Director, Federal Programs Director, and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction prior to beginning her role as Superintendent. She currently serves on the Executive Board at the Sand Springs Chamber, the Governing Board for the American Association of School Administrators, and Junior Achievement Board of Directors.
She is starting her 7th year on the Oklahoma School Insurance Group Board of Directors. She is a staunch advocate for public education and has devoted her life work to ensure a quality education for all children. Ms. Durkee is married to Richard Durkee, a life-long resident of Sand Springs. They have three children, all of which graduated from Oklahoma State University and are working in the Tulsa area.
Dr. John Cox is in his 30th year as Superintendent of Peggs Public School, and 38th year in public education. He began his career as a mathematics/computer science teacher and athletics coach. Dr. Cox also serves as an adjunct professor at Mid American Christian University teaching public school finance to graduate students. He previously worked as an adjunct professor for Northeastern State University teaching Educational Research, Facilities, Public Relations, and Finance.
Dr. Cox has an earned Doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Administration and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) from Oklahoma State University, and a Masters Degree in Counseling and Bachelors Degree in Mathematics Education from Northeastern State University. He serves as President of the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools, Vice-Chairman of the Oklahoma Schools Assurance Group, and Treasurer of the Oklahoma Schools Insurance Group. He is Past-President of the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators (CCOSA-OASA). Dr. Cox is a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association and the NSU Alumni Association and serves as Past-President of the NSU Alumni Association board.
“I appreciate being allowed to have a small role in helping provide a quality insurance program for our Oklahoma schools. I also love that OSIG impacts our students personally by awarding college scholarships to some of our outstanding public school Seniors.” Dr. Cox stated. Dr. Cox loves spending time with his grandkids (Marcus-17; Brynlee-11; Cannon-3; and Brooklyn-1), and traveling and going to the beach with his wife Rhonda. They have five grown children and they enjoy spending time at their home in Peggs.
Shelley Free is the Superintendent and CEO of Kiamichi Technology Centers and is proud to serve as an OSIG board member. With more than 37 years of teaching and leading at all levels of public education – elementary, middle school, high school and CareerTech – she inspires a vision of educational and business excellence.
Ms. Free began her career as a business teacher and coach at Talihina Public Schools in 1985 and later moved to the CareerTech classroom before becoming the campus director at Kiamichi Tech – Talihina. In 2008, she began serving as the Deputy Superintendent for Kiamichi Tech and was selected to be the first female and fifth Superintendent for Kiamichi Tech in 2014.
Outside of her professional commitments, Ms. Free spends as much time as possible with her two sons and daughters-in-law and enjoys attending the activities of her four amazing grandchildren Lakyn, Teagan, Gray and Elliott.
Jason Lindley is an esteemed Superintendent at Hartshorne Public Schools, with a diverse background in education and sports. He holds a BS in Business Administration Marketing from Oklahoma State University (1997) and an MS in Educational Leadership from the same institution (2005).
Throughout his career, Jason has made significant contributions to the education community. He served in various roles at Newkirk Public Schools from 1998 to 2002, including Head Baseball Coach, Assistant Softball Coach, and Assistant Football Coach. Since joining Hartshorne Public Schools in 2002, he has held positions such as Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Softball Coach, Middle School Principal, and now Superintendent.
Jason’s commitment to education extends beyond his school district, as he actively participates in the OSIG Board since 2022 and the OSSAA Board since 2023. He is also a member of CCOSA and OSAC.
Outside of work, Jason finds joy in family activities, supporting his kids’ events, and contributing to family businesses. Additionally, he enjoys traveling with his loved ones and embracing the joys of being a grandparent.
Jennifer McKenzie is a seasoned Program Manager, bringing over two decades of expertise to her role at OSIG. She embarked on her journey with OSIG in 2005, following five successful years at the Nonprofit NAIW Education Foundation. Jennifer’s key responsibility is to lead the entire OSIG team, ensuring excellence in their operations.
Her specialization shines through her Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) and Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM) designations, combined with her profound knowledge of Insurance and Accounting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a degree in Accounting from Northeastern State University.
